Les soldes

As expected, the streets of Limoges were filled with tons of people looking for a bargain on the first day of les Soldes. I was amongst them. I was very reasonable:

  • one pair of dangling red earring : 1€50
  • one black & red beaded galeries Lafayette necklace: 1€50
  • 3 Pucca notebooks: 0,50€
  • one men's coton shirt (Gwen looks dashing): 20€
  • one Biba magazine: 1€80
  • one ice-cold diet coca-cola on a terrasse: 3€00

Solstice Review

*****

I was quite disapointed in the 2005 edition of Fête de la Musique in Limoges. The town was crawling with people but alas there wasn't many musicians out there compared to last year. There were a few good performances but we were mostly frustrated because too often they were covering pop-rock tunes. I'd much rather listen to a crappy original song than a flavourless cover. There was even a chick doing karaoke to 80s hits!?! That's simply not my idea of what the Fête de la Musique is supposed to be. Afterwards, i was thinking about my Fête de la Musique Playlist and i started feeling guilty that it was only featuring major record label artists so i made a new one with music of new artists that are promoting their music online legally. I've discovered some gems on sites such as *Cnet download* & *epitonic* . I urge you to visit these internet sites filled with legal & free music like: iTunes music store, soit dit en passant, *djouls*, etc... (if you know other ones please let me know). I've been listening more and more to music that way and i'm not the only one. You must have heard of Maria Schneider who has won a grammy for an album that was only available online!

Best Friend

I met my first real best friend when i was 10 & we were always together until adolescence came and teared us apart.

I dreamt of her last night. I was upset when I woke up because we were separated again. I dreamt she was very sick in the hospital & I slowly built the courage to go talk to her. Once I did she was very happy to see me & I was shocked no one would change her pyjamas so i went to Wal-mart (???) to buy her some.

I hope she's fine. I hope life has been good to her. I've tried to google her up but to no avail... I'd be so happy to hear from her.

Here are some of my favorite memories of her:

* Her grey winter boots
* Tying up JF with his scarf onto a doorknob with her & laughing about it all the way back to class
* calling our daydreams "Tu-Sais-Quoi"
* writing love stories together
* watching her read Archie & wondering why she wasn't smiling even though she found it funny
* going in the baby swings at the park
* skiing & eating maple taffy cones
* off-tracks pranks

* passing each other notes during class & trying not to get caught
* watching horror movies
* having sleepovers & talking until we fell asleep
* taking silly picture of each other

I've been thinking about her a lot lately & i sure miss her sooooo much.

*************

The western world loves a bargain and boxing day in itself is proof enough but nothing compares to the way the French love their "Soldes". They eagerly await the sales which only occur twice a year. The soldes period is even determined by the government. They talk about it for weeks in advance, carefully establishing the best game plan for this season's soldes. They make sure they ask for their day off in advace so that they are free on the first day of the soldes. A few days before the soldes begins, they go to the stores to list what could potentionaly become a fabulous bargain. On d-day, they rush out to the streets (i may have seen one or two with carefully colour-coded detailled maps) & shop 'til they drop! It's such an important event that i makes the headlines of all media.

Of course, i can never really partake in any of it because i'm always broke when it's les soldes... probably because i've already bought the clothes at regular prices!

Sleepless Night

Another sleepless night... but not because i was sick. It's because i was terrified after seeing the movie The Eye.
I've got a Love/Hate relationship to horror movies. They scare me to death but i can't help watching them. I love to be scared but then i go crazy from sleepless nights. The Eye was definitely S-C-A-R-Y! Asian horror films really spook me (Ring, Dark Water, etc...)
When we went to bed, i couldn't erase the sight of all those dead people the heroin saw, nor their haunting voices. I was holding on to Gwen like never before. My heart was thumping hard & i was piping hot under the bed covers but couldn't bear to take even my pinky from underneath the covers. I could feel the sweat running down my back. I could hear strange noises, see unusual forms in the darkness. I'd dose off from time to time only to awake and feel a strange presence... I didn't want to open my eyes... I'm exhausted this morning!
The difference with Hollywood-type horror movies is that the ghosts appear during the daytime, in the middle of a crowded city! So i'm not much more reassured now that the sun is up.
In fact... I'm terrified to look behind me right this second...
